Dedicated to the memory of Leslie Wise

Mr Leslie Wise, born on the 20 June 1942, beloved son of Mr John and Mrs Lucy Wise, inseparable twin brother to Robert and brothers Tommy and John, sisters Edie, Betty, Vera and Florrie.
A Devoted husband to Mrs Joyce Wise, a loving father to Mrs Donna Marie Rao and Mr Adam Wise and Grandfather to Master Jai Kamal Satish Brockbank Rao and Master Hari Kamal Satish Wise Rao, passed away on Wednesday 13 January at Lincolnshire County Hospital after suffering ill health for many years.
He had a keen sense of humour which always made us laugh especially when it came to which London football team was better - we all know it’s Tottenham. He enjoyed his food and drink which he took in moderation and loved taking his time and talking to all around him. He was a social, kind and gently spoken character and much admired by all that knew him.
He overcame many adversities in his life and eventually met his soul mate in Joyce Waite, in Lincoln. After he moved from his beloved hometown of Workington, he worked for Ruston Gas Turbines for 35 years that enabled their marriage in 1974 and the start of family bliss with Donna blazing onto the scene in 1976 followed by Adam in 1980.
Les came from a large family and was a twin with Uncle Robert (Bob). After his father passed away at an early age, Aunt Vera helped to raise the family with their mother, adding emphasis on Les, who was disabled due to an accident just after his birth. Her loss a few years back was something Les could not overcome. Now they are reunited.
He will be sorely missed, go well in to that starry night.

Thoughts

Many of you know him as Leslie or Les, some as friend, some as uncle, brother, husband, granddad and dad. What can we say about dad? Yes he was a quiet and gentle man, often keeping himself to himself. We remember him with great love, laughing at his silly traditional 'dad' jokes and his playfulness. We remember him with great fondness, as he made sure that we had the skills to survive life from an early age, changing plugs, hanging the wallpaper, changing light bulbs and always having to polish our shoes. After a long day at work dad always had time to sit and read with us, always helped mum around the house, never one to be idle even when he must have been exhausted. Dad, Les, Leslie was a man who lived his life against all the odds. Faced each challenge and came out the other side victorious. After an accident as a toddler the doctors said, “He won't ever walk...” he proved them wrong. This determination went with him wherever he went. As a young man he found a love of words and wrote a book. We never knew until recently. And it makes sense, as when we were kids he was always playing word games and encouraging us to read. Dad, met mum and married. His doctors thought he'd never marry let alone have children; he played against those odds again and won. Dad was always loyal and kept his family close, even when times were hard he never faltered and made sure we all came out the other side stronger and better. There was never anyone more resilient than dad. When you remember him today and whenever he just pops into your mind somewhere down the line, remember all these things about Leslie and all your own memories with love. Take his resilience, his loyalty, his kindness and humour, his determination and his love and make them a part of you as what better way to honour this wonderful man who was and shall forever be our friend, uncle, brother, grandfather, husband and dad? You will forever be in my heart - your loving daughter, Donna xxx
